The Natural Helpers program, launched by the Office of Economic Opportunity in February 2020, is designed to bridge the gap between residents and the resources available to them by identifying, training, and empowering local community members.
The program brings together trusted, community-rooted leaders and organizational partners to tackle complex issues, challenge perceptions, and strengthen critical thinking through rigorous experiential learning. Through a four-month fellowship, participants receive eight full days of leadership training, equipping them with the education and connections needed to address the evolving needs of their communities. This includes developing skills to become effective community advocates and learning in detail about the community resources available in Portland.
